May Day

Today is May Day - the first day of May! We briefly discussed some traditions from this day across the United States and tried out a couple for ourselves.

This morning we made a Maypole! (Well... I made the Maypole.) BUT, students each got their own streamer and together, we danced around in a circle all while wrapping our streamers around the Maypole to decorate it.

This afternoon we worked to make our very own simplistic May Baskets. We followed along with some parts of the tradition, incorporating flowers (made out of paper) and delivering our May baskets to teachers in the school on their doors, knocking loudly, and then swiftly returning to our own classroom without being seen. This activity was a great success and teachers loved their homemade May Baskets.
