Poetry

Throughout the last couple of weeks we have been learning about poetry, both reading it and writing it. We have read poems together and listened to them, we have read them aloud, and written them in various forms. During our first week we focused on exposure- reading poems, exploring them, using them to make inferences, etc. During our next couple of weeks we began writing them ourselves. Our first week of writing occurred during our paperless week, so we did all of our writing on the computers. During that week we worked on basic rhyming poems, color poems, acrostic poems, and modified cinquains. Then the last week we switched over to using paper. The timing was great because during that week we focused on shape poems, which really need to be done on paper. We also worked on haikus and limericks.
