Penguin Visitor

What a great day it was today at Asa Adams! Our first and second grade students had a visitor come to teach them all about Penguins and Antarctica. Karl Kreutz, our very own penguin expert, spent an hour with students this afternoon giving a presentation about his experiences in Antarctica. He showed us pictures and told stories about what he saw and knows about Penguins from his travels. He also brought some rocks from Antarctica that were incredibly smooth from the strong winds and a chunk of ice. He ended his presentation by allowing some students to ask him questions. This was a great addition to our Penguin Unit of Study.

We will be continuing to learn about Penguins in the weeks up until February vacation. Students will be participating in many hands-on learning tasks, reading and writing informational texts, watching video clips, and holding discussions as we learn about these flightless birds.

Look for weekly updates HERE to find out what else we have been doing in our classroom to "stretch our brains" on the topic of Penguins.
