HOM Assembly

Have I mentioned recently about our HOM initiative?

Students are working hard each day at school to demonstrate our 6 Habits of Mind. When a teacher or staff member notices a student demonstrating one of these habits, the student can be rewarded with a HOM slip. They take this slip, stating which Habit of Mind they were spotted doing, right to Mrs. Fournier for a congratulations! It is great because Mrs. Fournier always asks them what they got the slip for, and it has started to really hold students accountable for knowing what they did well and why they are being recognized!

Each slip earned adds a "poof ball" to a whole school tracking jar. Once our school has reached a certain marking on the jar we will get a whole school REWARD! Students also can be individually rewarded. Each slip goes into a jar for a drawing held at the end of each month. This occurs at a school wide assembly. The prize is different each month and a number of students win! Our school assembly for January was held today, and 10 lucky winners will be able to have a Valentine Making Party for themselves and one friend. Encourage your child to continue demonstrating their Habits of Mind, and next month, it could be them!!!

Here are our Habits of Mind:

  • Perseverance
  • Managing Impulsivity
  • Listening with Empathy
  • Thinking Flexibly
  • Taking Responsible Risks
  • Striving for Precision and Accuracy
