Spelling Practice

As often as we can I try and give students a chance to practice their weekly spelling words in class, sometimes independently and sometimes with a partner. Today students worked with a partner to quiz each other on their individual spelling words. We focused on working with our partner to help them practice their words, offering suggestions and support to help each other improve. Sometimes kids come up with the best tips to help each other remember things, spelling words included!

AND today spelling practice included white boards - one of the students' favorites!

*Reminder - Although we practice our spelling words at school it is important that students practice their words at home as well. Practicing not only the spelling words but also the specific pattern of the week can be a truly valuable tool in helping your child grow! The more words that they can spell and the better they become at sounding out words on their own and attempting the spelling independently, the better their writing and reading will become too! We focus hugely on spelling words independently during writing time - students are at least expected to stretch out the sounds of each word and try their best before seeking assistance from a friend or from myself.
