Leaf Man!

Yesterday our students had a fun fall adventure creating Leaf Men!

We began our lesson by reading the story "Leaf Man" by Lois Ehlert and talking together about the creativity involved in making leaves look like people or animals. What fun to create something using leaves! Following our discussion we went on a nature walk around the school to collect leaves so that we could create our very own leaf men. Students each got their own bag and were encouraged to choose any leaves they thought would be a good addition to a leaf man picture. It was great fun to go for a walk around the school collecting leaves and examining the various shapes and colors. We spent the rest of the morning creating our leaf men and later in the day each student wrote a brief story about their leaf person (or animal).

The wonderful creations were all sent home in mailboxes today so I hope you all got a chance to see them for yourselves! The writing will stay at school for awhile to hang with a color copy display of each leaf man in our classroom :)
